Welcome
There is a widely recognized but little
acknowledged problem threatening emergency medical service
personnel: injury through assault. The frequency
of assault on our EMS providers is alarming. Many EMS
providers have anecdotal stories of how they were attacked by
a violent patient, an angry bystander or upset family member.
While most attacks are not life threatening,
the risks of serious injury is evident and unpredictable. EMS
providers need an effective and reasonable plan on how to avoid
an attack, and also know how to defend themselves once
attacked.
Your emergency medical
services staff requires a reasonable, liability-conscious,
effective means of preventing and avoiding assault by
patients, their family or bystanders.
DT4EMS™
is for EMS Providers created by EMS Providers. It is an
organization that teaches EMS Providers to Prevent ,
Avoid and Escape an assault. Our DT4EMS™
courses provide training in Force Response Levels, Legal,
Moral and Ethical Self-Defense as well as documentation
training to provide protection after any use of force. It is
important for EMS providers to receive training in self
-defense to keep them from reverting to caveman style
techniques in a violent encounter.
Our Mission
To be the Gold
Standard in Assault Prevention/Avoidance and Escape
for EMS Providers. It is our goal to prevent at least one
person, be it patient or provider from becoming the victim of
an assault.
About Us
DT4EMS™
was created by Kip Teitsort a Paramedic/ Police Officer, and
Dr. Aaron Newton M.D. to help with the ever growing reports of
assaults in the field. The courses offered are designed to
have real-world application and be liability conscious. We
stay away from the "Feel Good" type techniques that
fail in the field. Kip has been teaching law enforcement
defensive tactics for several years. He teaches the expandable
baton, ground defense, Tactical Folding Knife as well as
Survival Mentality. Kip also owns and operates the American
Hybrid Combat Karate school.
